The BRIDE
November 6th 1980Susan was born in Jersey, where she has lived the majority of her 36 years. First daughter of Ken and Yvette Yu, one of four siblings.
The Groom
June 24th 1980Alex was born and bred in Southampton only son of Clive and Gillian. Alex moved to Jersey in 2002 and was planning on staying for a year tops.
Our Story
2011
Sheep Racing in SarkEven though we briefly worked together at Ashburton we met for the first time on a trip to Sark to watch the “famous” sheep racing. Susan was invited to join the work organised trip by a friend and Alex invited his mum who happened to be over for the weekend, amazingly this did not act as a deterrent!
2012
House HuntingOur relationship flourished over the following 12 months and we decided to bite the bullet and find somewhere to live together. A comprehensive house hunt ensued and after looking at every rental property in Jersey we finally found somewhere Susan was happy with… We thought it would be a great idea to book a trip to Thailand and make the move upon our return. The day before our departure Susan announced that she was pregnant, on holiday the realisation sunk in that our lives were changing in the most exciting way.
2013
Arrival of LilyAfter an event free pregnancy and an eventful birth Lily Ellis arrived in July 2013. It became readily apparent that Susan was some kind of Super Mum with endless amounts of knowledge, stamina and love. Whilst sleepless nights were plentiful Susan attributed her years of conditioning through late night partying to her ability to cope. Alex was more like a burst balloon, albeit a happy one. Whilst tough and rewarding in equal measures during this period we became closer and closer as we experienced 12 years of getting to know each other in 12 months. At Susan’s Christmas party she announced to her friends that she was pregnant with our second child. We could never be accused of doing things by halves…
2014
Arrival of RubyAnother perfect pregnancy and another perfect little girl, Ruby Ellis was born in September 2014. In the space of 18 months we had our own family. Whilst two little ones was demanding and required all of Susan’s significant organisational skills we grew stronger and stronger as a couple. With significant help from Grandparents things began to become easier and we savoured snatched hours together.
2015
The ProposalIn an elaborate ruse that didn’t fool Susan one bit, Alex proposed at the Connaught Hotel in London in June 2015. Whilst only a slight extension of our existing commitment, our engagement was a celebration of our love and to signify our journey thus far. Our marriage, which we hope you can join us for, is about our excitement for our future together. Susan is also very happy to be adding to her jewellery collection.

Maid of HonorFriends since sixth form when we used to bunk economics at the boys school for hot chocolates, the Apple has been there for through the bad and good. Now we like to bunk childcare for shopping and wine.

BridesmaidA supreme example of great things coming in small packages and born to party. Secretly, we are more similar than we care to admit. One of two amazing sisters.

BridesmaidWhat more can I say than, “Dad’s favourite daughter!” Super organized and more sensible than Jennie or me; she’s the glue that keeps the Yu’s together. The other amazing sister.

Best ManRicky and I have been friends from School where we joined the same form at 11. Always the ‘Brainy one’ Ricky has forged a very successful life. He is now living in Boston, MA with his wife Courtney and his 4 children!!! Ricky has got a little bit of everything… apart from hair.
David Verrall
Best ManDave and I have been friends from 4 when we met for the first time at Rownhams play school. Dave has been a constant through my life and is the brother I never had. If you want the personification of a Southampton lad, Dave is it. Just please don’t mention Portsmouth.
Stephen Wilson
Vicar for the dayI have known Steve since arriving in Jersey and whilst he is as mad as a box of frogs he is a great friend with whom I have shared so many fun and important moments. Steve loves performing for the crowd so has agreed to conduct our blessing for us.
